Torys Creates Change

Torys LLP has been a proud partner of Free the Children since its inception, having worked with the organization on its incorporation and registration as a charity in the mid-1990s.  Since then, we have advised FTC on a variety of matters, using our expertise to help solve some of FTC’s legal needs.  Our longstanding relationship with Craig and Marc Kielburger and all of the other dedicated members of the organization is one of our most cherished.

Recently we have been especially enthusiastic to support We Create Change, Canada’s largest penny drive.  This initiative has enabled us to broaden our commitment to create positive change in our community in a novel way, and outside of the legal pro bono space.   This was a particularly meaningful initiative for Torys because it brought the whole firm together to help purchase clean water for those in need.  Our work at Torys is increasingly international in scope and we actively seek ways to contribute to the communities in the developing world where many of our clients are based or do business.

After a tremendously successful penny drive, we’re all gratified that we can add twenty five thousand pennies to the many pro bono hours we’ve spent working with Free The Children.  The pride we feel from a successful team effort is more profound when it results in 10 people receiving clean water for the rest of their lives.  The best part of working with an organization like Free The Children is knowing how passionate their team and followers are – we’re thrilled with our result, but even more excited with the knowledge that so many others participated in We Create Change and secured water for people in need!
