Interesting fact: Sarah has climbed the Pyramid of the Sun in Teotihuacan , Mexico-the third largest pyramid in the world!

Sarah Aquilina joined the Free The Children team in 2008, anxious to begin her work as a coordinator in the organization's development department. Sarah's desire to work for Free The Children stemmed from her passion for international human rights issues. Her position allows her to do the work she loves, while making a positive difference in the world.

Born and raised on Canada's east coast, Sarah moved to Ontario during her high school years. After obtaining a degree in anthropology, she continued her studies in international project management, learning how to work with international organizations on development and humanitarian assistance projects. Sarah has been involved with different leadership and volunteer organizations throughout her studies, organizing events such as community leadership educational workshops, a Free The Children benefit concert and a Feast for Famine fundraiser with Amnesty International. Her experiences with social justice issues here in Canada as well as her confrontation with first-hand poverty during a trip to Mexico City have paved the way for a profound interest in international development.

Always smiling and optimistic, Sarah loves to visit with family and friends and meet new people! In summer, she enjoys camping and being outdoors, and keeps telling herself that one day she will skydive. She is also a secret nerd and can often be found curled up on the couch reading a book. She believes that every individual can make a difference and that, collectively, positive individual action contributes towards making this world a better place.
