Seerat Kazmi joined Free The Children in 2009 as program manager in the international projects department. In this role, she's able to apply her strong sense of social justice and project management skills to holistic development initiatives impacting four key sectors: education, health, alternative income, and water and sanitation. Seerat is driven by her vision of a brighter, more equitable future for the world's youth and is committed to sharing her passion and idealism to engage others around her.
Seerat earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Toronto in human biology and social cultural anthropology, with a keen interest in human rights, social determinants of health and access to education. During her time at U of T, she worked as a peer health educator, participating in a student outreach program promoting healthy lifestyle choices, specifically mental health. She went on to receive a post-graduate diploma from Humber College in international project management, where she picked up the skills, knowledge and experience required to develop and manage sustainable international development programs.
In her spare time, Seerat is usually curled up with a good detective fiction novel or glued to her "lappy" as she affectionately refers to her laptop computer. She hopes to work in civil society engagement in South Asia in the future, encouraging youth and community groups to become advocates for social change. Seerat keeps motivated by remembering the quote, "To accomplish great things we must not only act but also dream, not only plan but also believe."
