director's notes

Drummer/Producer: Dean Stamler

Hi friends,

There are few things more rewarding than doing something you love to help someone in need. Me and my band, Sunday Night Cruise, recently had the opportunity to work with Directors of Change by writing and producing original music for the documentary Harambee. The spirit of this project is at the heart of what we in Sunday Night Cruise believe: that all people can use their everyday abilities to be conduits of positive change in the world.

We decided a few years ago that, for us, being musicians wasn't enough. We wanted to be musicians that transcended the boundaries imposed by the entertainment industry and be examples for those wanting to break similar moulds in their respective vocations. Over the last few years we have witnessed students being activists for the poor, friends becoming advocates of fair global and local trade, and young children slowly coming to grips with their position in the world.

In our band, we have a name for this lifestyle. We call it “action” because it is completely invisible without actually doing something. If there’s one thing I want to encourage you all to do, it’s to take a look around you and ask yourself what part of your culture, your consumption and your perceived needs you can adjust in order to make the world a better place for someone else. Then take the action required to make it happen.
