Agriculture and Food Security

Helps us provide agricultural tools and ensure food security to a rural community through tree planting, school nutrition programs, irrigation projects and the provision of seeds for farms and gardens. The Agriculture and Food Security pillar, made possible by founding partner PotashCorp, focuses on innovative farming techniques and water management projects to help ensure developing communities have access to self-sustaining food sources, directly impacting their health, access to education and life outcomes.

The Facts

In Free The Children’s countries of operations, the majority of community members are subsistence farmers. As a result, when their crops fail these farmers are unable to feed their families. This, coupled with increasing desertification, shifting weather patterns and rising global food prices, leads to widespread malnutrition during periods of crisis.

What you can do

Your participation in an agriculture and food security campaign will ensure that families are able to become self-sufficient and possess adequate livelihoods— they will no longer be faced with the threat of starvation.

The exact agriculture and food security project you support depends on the country you choose to fundraise for. At Free The Children, we base our agriculture and food security projects on each community’s specific values and needs.

When you sign up for an agriculture and food security campaign, we will send you a wall-sized campaign poster and a step-by-step guide. You also receive one-on-one support from your youth programming coordinator.
