Support our health care and health education programs in a rural village overseas. Through these programs we help save lives and ensure children stay healthy.
Every year, 9.2 million children die before the age of five. The vast majority of these deaths occur in the developing world and could be easily prevented with adequate health care and health education. With no health care and no health education, communities are affected by diseases such as HIV/AIDS, malaria, typhoid and dysentery, which devastate families and keep children from getting an education.
Your participation in a health campaign will improve a community’s access to health education and basic health services. Children will be able to attend school in good health, and the overall health of the community will be improved.
The exact health project you support depends on the country you choose to fundraise for. At Free The Children, we base our health projects on each community’s specific values and needs.
When you sign up for the health campaign, we will send you a wall-sized campaign poster and a step-by-step guide. You also receive one-on-one support from your youth programming coordinator.
This past May, a group of students and staff from Downsview Secondary School, in the Toronto District School Board, got a lesson in what life might be like for their peers around the world when they took part in a “health walk” to raise money for access to healthcare in Kenya. Fifteen passionate students and two daring educators walked 16 kilometres through the heart of the GTA to our Free The Children head office to raise money for our Baraka Health Clinic. In the end, they raised over $1,700!
