One of the most pressing issues directly impacting poverty alleviation today is the growing challenge of food security, the availability of and access to an adequate amount of healthy, nutritious food that meets populations’ dietary needs and food preferences. The lesson package—made possible thanks to the support of PotashCorp—was created to provide educators with a comprehensive lesson on the purpose and inner workings of the Agriculture and Food Security pillar.

Food security isn’t only an international issue but an issue that affects many in our local communities. Every Halloween night, youth around the world take action to fight local hunger and poverty by collecting non-perishables that are donated to local food banks. We Scare Hunger, formerly known as Halloween for Hunger, is a campaign designed by Professor Jonathan White when he was a university student. The lesson package is designed to engage students with the issues so that they can become knowledgeable advocates for change.
