A Message from the Youth Programming Department

Greetings world leaders,

Happy holidays from all of us at Free The Children!

As 2005 draws to a close, we have much to reflect on. People around the world have faced many challenges this year, from deadly natural disasters to the daily suffering of poverty and exploitation. While it is tempting to feel discouraged by the scale of destruction, we must remember that each and every one of us can make a huge difference. By working together, our individual actions will lead to large-scale healing and long-term sustainable change.

Youth have recognized the calamities facing the world and are speaking out. Free The Children Youth in Action groups are popping up all over, and the Adopt a Village: Alternative Income campaign is spreading like wildfire.

The Alternative Income campaign is an amazing way to give children in developing countries the opportunity to receive an education and break the cycle of poverty. By providing impoverished families with alternative sources of income such as goats, pigs, cows, and sewing machines, they will be able to remove their children from dangerous working conditions and send them to school. Check out the “Just In” section of this newsletter to find out how you can give the gift of a goat this holiday season and make a real difference in the lives of your peers overseas. For more information on the Alternative Income campaign, visit the “campaigns” section of the Youth Zone.

Best of wishes for a fantastic new year,

The Youth Programming Team
