Silence sounds the same in every language

The students of the We Generation group at Seoul Foreign School in South Korea pose in the Vow of Silence t-shirts they designed

Though they’re oceans apart, students at St. Paul’s Catholic Secondary School in Trenton, Ontario, and Seoul Foreign School in Seoul, South Korea, are making a difference together. These students, and thousands more around the world, are standing together, united in solidarity for the rights of children worldwide through the Vow of Silence campaign.

Even though students at these two schools have never met, they have a common passion – to support children and families in Kenya with access to education, clean water and a steady source of income.

St. Paul’s student Kelley Morrison explains, “Things have got to change, and at St. Paul’s we’ve been given the chance to speak up against this injustice and stand for what is right. Our vow is to help improve conditions around the world, one step at a time.”

Through collecting pledges and taking the Vow of Silence, St. Paul’s students hope to raise $8,500 to build a school in Kenya.

Even though these schools are oceans apart, they are working side by side to support children in Kenya
Meanwhile, on the other side of the world, the students of Seoul Foreign School took their own Vow of Silence. To take their campaign to the next level, the 33 students involved designed T-shirts and wore masks for the event to deepen the impact of their actions. Their fundraising was a huge success, and a village in Kenya will benefit by having clean and safe drinking water thanks to their 24 hours of silence.

You too, can make a difference, no matter where you live. Whether you choose to take the vow alone or get your whole school to participate, you’re helping to raise awareness of children’s rights and to spread of hope for children around the world.
