Hey Youth Leaders,
Happy autumn! Congratulations on all of your hard work in the month of September. We hope your first month of school has been exciting and that you're ready for an amazing October.
We would like to take this opportunity to introduce the newest addition to the youth programming team, Theresa Karsner. She has come all of the way from Maryland to work with you and help you to reach all of your Youth in Action goals. So drop her a line and introduce yourself - we know that she would love to hear from you!
This year is shaping up to be the best year ever! And that's because it's Free The Children's 10th anniversary (wow!). In celebration of this milestone, there was a huge article in the Toronto Star. Make sure to read the article and check out the videos online. Stay tuned for more information on our 10th anniversary celebrations!
October holds the promise of beautiful leaves, hoodies, perhaps some candy and the most exciting thing of all- Halloween for Hunger! If you haven't started already, now is the time to start planning this amazing event in your community.
By taking part in the Halloween for Hunger campaign you will get to: 1) trick-or-treat in costume 2) spend an amazing October with friends and classmates 3) help fight hunger in your community by collecting food for your local food bank. Learn more about this awesome campaign and get the Halloween for Hunger resource kit!
Additional highlights for October include: exciting updates from your regional network coordinators, Volunteer Now! updates, and inspiring stories from youth about how they are making a difference in the world. Check out In This Issue for a complete listing of this month's newsletter content.
This October also marks one year since the death of Joe Opatowski, an
inspiration and guiding light in the lives of many people and our
organization as a whole. In honour of Joe, Renee Hodgkinson has
written a poem, entitled Joe: Brother, Friend, and Leader, which can be found at

With all of us working together, we're overflowing with excitement thinking about the many amazing things we can do in the month of October and for the rest of the year. Let us know what you're up to, or if we can help you out in any way. Give us a call or drop us an e-mail anytime. We look forward to hearing from you!
Keep making the world a better place,
The youth programming team
