| This past May, I graduated from Colby College, which is located in Waterville, Maine in the United States. While at school, I studied sociology and international studies with a concentration in development studies. I was involved in a number of volunteer groups, such as our college chapter of Habitat for Humanity, and when I had time, I skied, hiked, and played ultimate frisbee.
I joined the Free The Children team just two short months ago and I've been having an awesome time ever since! I’m psyched to work with so many fantastic people. I deeply believe that Free The Children's goal of providing the opportunity of education to every child in the world is an amazing approach to international development. And I am honoured to be a part of this vision. I look forward to working with all of you to make a huge difference in the lives of youth across the world.
As we all already know, this year is going to ROCK, and I will name a few of the reasons why.
There are three fantastic Free The Children campaigns this year for you and your group to get involved in and take action: Adopt a Village (includes Brick by Brick), Halloween for Hunger, and Vow of Silence.
We have also just launched the YouthZone on the new Free The Children website. The YouthZone is your key to everything Free The Children, from blogs to campaign resources to research guides.
We are also happy to introduce our four new regional network coordinators for British Columbia, Quebec, and the Atlantic Provinces. Their job is to support Youth in Action groups, speak at schools in their region, encourage youth to get involved, and much more besides! These are only a few of the highlights of what we have planned for this year.
Check out "In This Issue" for more information on all of these exciting developments.
Stop the presses! Did you pick up the paper this past weekend? On Saturday, September 24, Free The Children, and all the amazing accomplishments you are contributing to every day, were featured in the Toronto Star, the newspaper with the largest circulation in Canada!
By following this link, not only can you read the article, but you can view exciting and inspirational videos produced by Free The Children as well as a fun photo gallery. Check it out! www.thestar.com/freethechildren
