Updates
New YouthZone !
Free The Children has launched their new website with an amazing section dedicated to youth. The new YouthZone is your key to everything Free The Children, including: blogs; the youth speakers' bureau; information on Youth in Action groups; research resources for elementary, high school, and university students; and much more. This website is constantly being updated so make sure to check it out for the most up-to-date information! You'll be glad you did.
Regional Network Coordinators
To help you connect with youth in your area and to make sure you have all the support you need, we have established new Free The Children regional network coordinators. Currently, we have four regional network coordinators working in British Columbia, Quebec, and Atlantic Canada. The regional network coordinators for the United States will be joining us soon...so stayed tune!

The regional network coordinators are super-motivated and involved youth, hired to serve you better. That’s right…their job is to make sure that you can realize all of your goals for changing the world. So please, feel free to contact them with any questions or ideas that you might have about your Youth in Action group, our campaigns, or about any other Free The Children programs. They are available to attend your events and give speeches.

Biographies and pictures of your regional network coordinators will be coming soon in the "Make it Happen" section of the YouthZone. So keep your eyes peeled!

Now, introducing your 2005-2006 regional network coordinators! If you live in these areas, drop them a line to say "hi" and talk about your Free The Children activities.

But feel free to continue to connect with the Free The Children International Office - we still love hearing from you!

About Me - Sapna Goel

Hi everyone! My name is Sapna Goel and I'm the Adopt a Village coordinator at Free The Children. I'll be working closely with Youth in Action groups in the Toronto and Peel district school boards to get you thinking about how you can make an amazing difference in the lives of children in the developing world.

But a little about myself first! Although I just started at Free The Children, I did have the pleasure of working with the organization through my previous job.

I love what Free The Children stands for and the work it does, so I'm so excited to be working here! My biggest goal in life is never to stop learning. As much as I love being in school (and believe me, I've willingly spent plenty of time in classrooms), I also love what I can learn from more than just textbooks. I look forward to continuing my education by getting the chance to learn from all of you with whom I will speak and interact, and all youth who will make a difference in our world!

For more information about the Adopt a Village campaign in Peel and Toronto schools, contact Sapna Goel, Adopt a Village coordinator. If you are outside of these areas, please contact Jessica Bentley-Jacobs.

Project Updates

It's been an amazing year thus far at Free The Children and we have all of our amazing youth and supporters to thank. In terms of the status of the projects that so many of our youth have fundraised for, things are running very smoothly and your hard work is producing spectacular results!

I had the amazing opportunity of visiting the Free The Children schools in the Kono district of Sierra Leone in June. I was very touched by the gratitude and appreciation the children showed to me for being a part of an organization that helped to provide them with the unique opportunity of having a school in their community.

The children at this school celebrated 'The Day of the African Child' on June 16 through song and dance. On this day, they not only reflected on their freedom, which they never take for granted, but also rejoiced in their hope for a brighter future.

During my visit, construction of a new school in this district had just commenced, thanks again to your dedication, hard work, and support!

New Free The Children School in China

The next piece of exciting news is that Free The Children has just bought a herd of goats. We are implementing the Alternative Income program in Sierra Leone, which provides families with alternative income resources, thus giving children the opportunity to go to school.

On the other side of globe, the children in Wenjia county, which is in the Gansu province of China, now have access to a brand new school which is providing education to more than 250 Chinese children. Prior to the construction of this school, most children in this community only ever achieved a grade 3 level education. This school provides children with a much brighter future.

Because of your help, in the past three years, Free The Children has been able to provide education to more than 4352 children.

Its time to P-A-R-T-Y!: National Day

This coming spring we will be taking action to celebrate both the philosophy of living and Free The Children's 10 year anniversary. This day will bring together more than 15,000 young people in Toronto for a day of leadership training, inspirational speeches, music and entertainment. These youth will be joined by thousands of other Canadians in communities from coast to coast, who will be participating in community service activities.

WE will show the world that we can lead the way and make progressive and sustainable changes in society by reaching out to others through positive social action.
