Alternative Income
AgricultureAgriculture is the economic support base for many developing world families and communities. Frequent droughts, lack of access to fertilizer, and good arable land are only a few of the many challenges families face in this uncertain industry. Many families do not own their own plots of land, and for the few that do, the land is often not as productive as it could be due to poor agricultural practices. |
In addition, many families are forced to grow vegetables or crops because they are readily available, but of low nutritional value. Communities also have the added disadvantage of having little marketing experience, which is a barrier to getting the most money for their agricultural produce.
Through Free The Children’s Alternative Income Program, marginalized rural families are provided with the resources they are lacking, including:
• Fertile plots of land
• Farming tools
• Training
Training is often the most important part of this program, as
it helps farmers increase productivity, the quality of their produce,
and helps them learn new sales and marketing techniques.
