In 2008, Free The Children opened its first U.S. office in Palo Alto, California, an area renowned for its spirit of innovation and change. Since then, we have been serving youth and families throughout the state of California, and our presence is rapidly growing.
By offering personalized mentorship and support to Free The Children Groups, partnering with schools and districts, and connecting youth to their peers overseas through exciting campaigns and programs, we are empowering young Californians to take action both locally and globally. We also work with educators and school administrators in an effort to bring curricular resources into the classroom, educating young people about the UN Millennium Development Goals and pressing social issues.

In June 2010, the annual Take Action Academy in Atherton, California engaged youth from all across the state and beyond, in social change and leadership training.
