Sunny's Story

When Sunny's old school , which was really only fit to keep rabbits and goats, was about to close, Sunny lost hope for an education.

Sunny is the only child in her family. Her parents are poor farmers in Hebei province, one of China 's poorest regions. In her village, people live on less than one dollar per day. They are poorly nourished and many suffer from health problems.

Just before her school was ordered to close because of safety problems, the teacher made an exciting announcement: a new school was going to be built in Wu Jia Zhuang by Free The Children!

Sunny was overjoyed. When the new term began, she took her seat in a freshly painted classroom. A few months later, the new school started providing lunch. With nutritious food and a quality learning environment, Sunny was able to concentrate and her marks started to improve. Soon enough, Sunny was the top student in her class. At the end of primary school, she was offered a scholarship to attend secondary school in the nearby city.

Today Sunny continues to study at the secondary school in the city. She dreams of becoming a scientist or a doctor so that she can help others and return to her village to find new ways to make a difference.
