Commitment to Change

  1. What is the commitment to change? (back to top)

We Day is a one-day event, full of energy and inspiration. But it’s also the beginning of a movement that generates real social change, starting locally and then spreading internationally. Each school group attending the event becomes part of this movement by making a commitment to follow a year-long program of awareness and fundraising activities. This commitment includes taking action in their own community, as well as supporting an overseas project through Free The Children’s Adopt a Village program.

  2. Do we have to make the commitment in order to attend the event? (back to top)

No, but seats for We Day are always in high demand and priority will be given to schools that have made a commitment to change.

  3. Our school will only be able to raise a little bit of money for Adopt a Village. Can we still participate? (back to top)

Yes! Every dollar counts. While we encourage you to raise as much money as you can, and our youth coordinators are always available to help with fundraising ideas, there is no minimum fundraising amount to take the commitment to change.

  4. What is Adopt a Village? (back to top)

Adopt a Village is Free The Children’s unique holistic development program that focuses on providing education, alternative income, health care and water and sanitation projects. Through this multi-faceted approach, children and their families are truly empowered to break out of poverty. Click here to learn more.

  5. When are the in-services? (back to top)

In-services will take place throughout October 2009. Exact dates will be made available at the start of the 2009-2010 school year.

  6. Is the in-service mandatory? (back to top)

The in-services provide a platform where educators and students receive the tools, knowledge and resources to successfully carry out their campaigns and their commitment to change. Educators are provided with classroom activities to guide the year-long program, and students are given social issues and leadership training. While not mandatory, the in-services are highly recommended.

  7. Will the in-service be different than last year’s? (back to top)

While it will serve the same purpose, we are constantly updating the content of the event and in-services to be relevant for both new schools and returning groups to the Me to We program.

  8. What are the two reports we have to submit? Are they long? (back to top)

Report 1 involves filling out an online action plan, and is the equivalent of approximately two pages of text. Report 2 is a chance for you to share your photos, videos and written reflections on the Me to We program with hundreds of schools across Canada.

Extra Ticket Requests for Schools

  1. Can I have extra tickets? (back to top)

Demand for We Day tickets is extremely high. As a result, we are unable to offer any extra tickets and there is no waiting list.

  2. Does the maximum number of seats available include educators? (back to top)

    Yes.

  3. What happens if I move to another school next year, but registered my previous school to attend We Day? (back to top)

The seats remain allocated to the school that was originally registered. Another educator will become the primary contact for the group, and will escort the students to the event. If you’d like your new school to attend, you’ll have to register again.

  4. I registered for tickets, but haven’t heard anything from Free The Children. How can I be sure my registration went through? (back to top)

If you received a verification e-mail after completing the registration process, your request for tickets has been received. After June 1, 2009, Free The Children’s event team will be in touch to let you know if your school has received seats to We Day 2009.

If you did not receive a verification e-mail, contact either wedaytoronto@freethechildren.com or wedayvancouver@freethechildren.com.

  5. My school is not from Toronto or Vancouver; can we still attend one of the events? (back to top)

Yes! Your school will be responsible for covering transportation and accommodations, but schools from all across Canada are welcome.

  6. Does it cost money to attend We Day? (back to top)

No, tickets are free. Your school is responsible for covering supply teacher costs, bussing and/or transportation and accommodations, if necessary.

  7. There is one more student at my school that would like to come; can we have another ticket? (back to top)

No. Unfortunately we must uphold a strict maximum number of seats per school. This is to ensure that as many schools as possible are able to attend the event.

  8. We have never participated in a program with Free The Children before. Can we still attend We Day? (back to top)

Absolutely! The event is for any school whose students want to change the world!

Technical Difficulties

  1. Our school wasn’t in the drop down menu under our board in the registration form OR Our school is greyed-out in the registration form. What should I do? (back to top)
