Adopt a Village: Alternative Income

Families in many rural, developing communities have limited incomes and must rely on their children to contribute to the household’s finances. As a result, children must work to earn extra family income and cannot go to school.

At Free The Children, we believe that alternative income initiatives are essential to poverty alleviation. Thanks to your support to date, we’ve equipped over 23,500 women with the tools and skills to become economically self-sufficient.

Our alternative income programming includes:

• Creating women’s groups for financial and business training
  
• Providing microcredit loans
  
• Building vocational training centres
• Providing animal husbandry training

These initiatives are tailored to serve the needs of each community we work in. With your support, we offer local community members the knowledge, resources and tools to generate income so that their children can envision a brighter future for themselves.
