Adopt a Village: Water and Sanitation

We at Free The Children believe that access to water is at the very foundation of sustainable development—it’s a basic human right that cannot be ignored. To date, Free The Children’s water and sanitation projects have provided clean water to over 138,500 people.

Our clean water programming includes:

  • The construction of effective clean water systems
  • Latrines
  • Hand-washing stations
  • Sanitation workshops

To ensure the sustainability of all our projects, we customize these initiatives to fit each community’s culture, environment and special circumstances.

These programs go beyond providing creative and sustainable solutions to our partner communities’ water crises; they also facilitate access to education for local children. With your support, we offer children hope for a brighter future.

Meet Ricardo

“[Clean water] for the community is important . . . It is important because often we don’t have water, especially here in the school . . . In the kitchen, the women who cook need clean water for the kids. The students need clean water to drink. That is why it is important—water is important for the children.”

- Ricardo Carillo, President of Huacona La Merced community, Ecuador
