Water and Sanitation

The Clean Water component of Adopt a Village supports the construction of wells and clean water and sanitation systems in local communities. Many diseases and illnesses common to developing communities are transmitted through contaminated water and inadequate sanitation systems. Children are particularly vulnerable.

Through this component we provide communities with clean water sources, latrines in schools and education initiatives about water-borne illnesses. This creates a significant improvement in community health and reduces the burden of work on young girls traditionally saddled with the job of collecting water from distant sources, a task that can keep them from going to school.
