If we’re going to change the world, we’ve got to start in our own communities. Changing attitudes. Changing priorities. Changing the way we think about our world.
Where would you like to go?

go local.

GO Local is an exciting program that targets local young people in underserved communities to act as agents of change who can, and will, make a difference in their own neighbourhoods. GO Local gives students a chance to learn about their own community’s issues while developing leadership skills through specialized programs.

go local.

This inspiring program encourages youth to make local actions that will help break barriers and improve their own lives and the communities around them. Gang violence, poverty and drug abuse are on the rise in cities, especially with young people living in communities in need. Youth have long been identified as key to building healthy, safe and dynamic communities. Free The Children has seen first-hand the power young people have to make a difference, no matter what their circumstances may be.

By participating in this program, students become leaders in their school and community, creating and enjoying stronger, safer spaces, and gaining valuable skills for success.

The GO Local program is delivered by Free The Children with the generous support of the RBC Royal Bank.

testimonials.

Thank you so much for the stories you shared with the students at Don Mills Collegiate. You should be commended for your uplifting spirit. The challenges you have overcome are truly inspirational to the students, and you are true testaments to the fact that one is only limited by the limitations one puts on oneself.

- Cindy Browne, Principal, Don Mills C.I, TDSB in reaction to a GO Local speech.

The speech was very motivational. I really liked it. It got me more motivated to make a big change in our community and around the world.

- Quince Sayamdunathan, Grade 11, C.W. Jeffery’s C.I., TDSB

(This workshop was) definitely an inspiring experience. My eyes have been opened up to different opinions and I now realize we all can work together in order to make a difference.
